Danny Caddigan is a huge problem for defenses.

The Team 91 2021 Blaze attackman and Smithtown West sophomore has been a revelation for the Bulls this spring, and Wednesday was no different. Caddigan ripped home five goals and Marc Cottage (’19 White/Wingate)added a goal and two assists as Smithtown West knocked off West Islip, 10-7, in a battle of two of Suffolk I’s top teams. THe Bulls rang up their 10th straight win after starting the year with an overtime loss to powerhouse Garden City.

“We had some adversity and we just had to battle through it,” Caddigan told Newsday’s Sal Cacciatore. “I think in the playoffs when we face adversity, we’re just going to think back to this game and know we’re going to be fine.”

Caddigan’s five-spot upped his goal total to 48, the best of any player on Long Island. Spencer Frank (’19 White/Hartford) also netted a goal in the win, while Jared Paquette (’19 White/Yale) kept West Islip in it with 15 saves.

Northport 7, Ward Melville 5: Ryan McCarthy (’21 Ambush) had a goal and two assists and Casey Fortunato (’21 Ambush) tallied once as Northport knocked off the defending state champs. Chris Simonton (’21 Blaze) scored once for the Patriots.

Port Washington 9, Oceanside 8: AJ Galassi (’19 Orange/Cornell) was great in the Port Wash cage, coming away with 10 saves to help the Pirates mount a comeback. Gunnar Johnson (’20 Orange) scored once for Oceanside.

Commack 8, Half Hollow Hills East 4: Blake Behlen (’19 Orange/Towson) handed out four assists to go with a goal as Commack doubled up Hills East. LSM Sal Pascarella (’19 White/Saint Joseph’s) scored for Hills East, which also got an assist from Brett Martin (’20 Crush/Johns Hopkins).

Bay Shore 11, Sachem East 5: Jayson Tingue (’20 Crush/UMBC) was a rock in goal for Bay Shore, denying 10 rips sent his way to preserve the win.

Connetquot 14, Whitman 7: Tyler Cordes (’20 Crush/Navy) went off for six goals and three assists and Michael Carere (’19 White/Saint Joseph’s) was 16-for-22 at the faceoff X to go with two goals and a helper as Connetquot cruised. Jack Ponzio (’23 Bandits) put together a two-goal, three-assist effort in the win.

Syosset 18, Baldwin 3: Andrew Giovinco (’19 Orange/Air Force) set up four goals and scored two of his own, while Tommy Dolciotto (’20 Crush/Stony Brook) and Christian Lyons (’19 White/Manhattan) each tallied once for the Braves.

Garden City 14, St. Ignatius 3: Gavin Pappas (’19 White/Denison) had a pair of goals and Will Puccio (’19 White/Trinity) netted a goal as the Trojans rolled again.

Patchogue-Medford 7, Longwood 6: Adrian Rutkowski‘s (’20 Orange) goal and assist guided Pat-Med to an overtime win.

Long Beach 16, MacArthur 4: Trey Sofield (’20 Orange) bagged a pair of goals as Long Beach exploded for 14 goals in the middle quarters.

Massapequa 22, Hicksville 2: Sam Lutfi (’19 Orange/Hofstra) scored a hat trick, Anthony Mollica (’22 Smash)added a goal and an assist and Angelo Petrakis (’19 Orange/Cornell) won all 20 of his faceoffs and scored a goal in the Chiefs’ rout.

Wantagh 15, Fairfax 7: Troy Donaghy (’22 Smash) tallied once in the win.

Manhasset 14, Calhoun 3: Nick Turrini (’19 Orange/Army) scored twice for Calhoun, which also got 14 saves from Kyle Munson (’19 Orange/Drexel).

Riverhead 17, Lindenhurst 7: Ron Durante (’20 Orange) was strong in goal for Lindy with 20 saves and Matt Josefson (’20 Orange) added a goal.
