Two games into the season, one thing is clear for Garden City. When the Trojans need a goal down the stretch, Gavin Pappas is going to have the ball in his stick.
A week after setting up Team 91 2019 White teammate Will Puccio (Trinity) for the overtime winner against Smithtown West, Pappas scored what stood as the eventual game-winner as Garden City nipped Massapequa, 8-7, on Saturday.
Pappas added another goal, while Puccio also found the back of the net twice. Angelo Petrakis (’19 Orange/Cornell) claimed 13 of 20 faceoffs and Sam Lutfi (’19 Orange/Hofstra) scored once for the Chiefs.
Glenn 18, Oyster Bay 8: Justin Tiernan (’19 Orange/Lehigh) had a monster game for Glenn, erupting for an absurd five-goal, seven-assist day and Cory Capri (’20 Orange) added three goals and two assists.
Harborfields 5, Hewlett 4: Nick Caccamo was unbelievable for the Tornadoes, snagging a ridiculous 16 ground balls and adding an assist as Harborfields came out on top in a triple-overtime thriller.
St. Anthony’s 15, Bronxville 5: In the Friars’ opener, Brennan O’Neill (’20 Crush/Duke) picked up where he left off last year with four goals and an assist, Aidan Danenza (’20 Crush/Duke) scored twice and set up two more goals and LSM Greg Campisi (’19 Orange/Harvard) chipped in a pair of assists as St. Anthony’s jumped out to a 9-0 lead after a quarter and never looked back. Andrew McAdorey (’20 Crush) tacked on an assist, and Daniel LePino (’20 Crush) stopped three shots.
Eastport-South Manor 7, Sachem East 5: ESM picked up its first win of the year thanks to a one-goal, one-assist from LSM Ryan Huff (’19 Orange/Penn State).
Mattituck/Southold 7, Rocky Point 6: Dane Reda (’20 Crush) scored twice and added an assist for Mattituck, which fended off Rocky Point despite three goals and an assist from Teddy Accardi (’19 White/Air Force) and a goal and an assist from Kyle Bonesteel (’19 White).
Long Beach 14, East Meadow 9: Trey Sofield (’20 Orange) paired a goal with an assist as Long Beach rolled. East Meadow got a hat trick and an assist from Chris Barry (’21 Blaze), as well as two goals and a helper from Joe Giambald (’21 Ambush).
West Islip 15, Farmingdale 3: Jared Paquette (’19 White/Yale) was his usual strong self in the cage, stopping nine shots to secure the win.
Syosset 17, Floral Park 5: Andrew Giovinco (’19 Orange/Air Force) bagged a two-goal, two-assist day for the Braves, who also got two goals and an assist from Christian Lyons (’19 White/Manhattan) and a goal from Tommy Dolciotto (’20 Crush/Stony Brook).
Seaford 10, Wheatley/Carle Place 4: Andrew Searing (’20 Orange) scored once in Seaford’s win.
Mineola 12, St. Dominic 7: Anthony Sand (’20 Orange/VMI) put forth a one-goal, two-assist day for St. Dom’s.
