The Virginia sophomore attackman buried four goals, including the overtime game-winner, and also added an assist as the ‘Hoos upended Princeton, 12-11. Laviano also collected three ground balls, and after four games, he paces the Cavaliers with 11 goals. Earlier in the week, he had another four-goal game to go with two ground balls in UVA’s 14-13 loss to High Point.
“It was something that we usually do all the time,” Laviano told Inside Lacrosse of the game-winning goal. “I was in the right spot, Kraus made a great look. It didn’t go in the way I wanted it to go in, but it when it trickled in, it was a big sigh of relief.”
Yale 14, Penn State 13: The battle of top 10 teams went the Bulldogs’ way, thanks in part to Lucas Cotler pocketing a goal and an assist for the defending national champs. Mac O’Keefe was ridiculous again for the Nittany Lions, scoring five times to go with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Bryant 6, Dartmouth 5: Andre Gomez found the back of the net once as the Bulldogs nipped the Big Green for their second straight win. Jack Richardson countered with a snipe of his own for Dartmouth.
Fairfield 12, Sacred Heart 11: Taylor Strough guided the Stags to their first win on the strength of a one-goal, one-assist, one-ground ball day.
Michigan 11, Jacksonville 10: Connor Cronin went 12-for-18 at the faceoff X and Kevin Mack had a pair of assists and a ground ball as the Wolverines edged the Dolphins.
Drexel 17, Michigan 16: Mack went off for Michigan with three goals, four assists and a caused turnover, while Cronin secured 17 faceoff wins in the overtime loss for the Wolverines.
Duke 17, Penn 7: Jordan Ginder had a pair of faceoff wins for the Blue Devils, who won their third straight. Sean Lulley caused a turnover for the Quakers.
Villanova 10, Hofstra 9: Ryan Tierney was superb with five goals and three ground balls, Bobby Casey stopped 10 shots to go with two ground balls and an assist and Riley Forte chipped in a helper, but the Pride couldn’t overcome the Wildcats’ comeback.
Providence 14, Saint Joseph’s 5: Matt Tufano bagged his first collegiate goal for the Hawks.
Lafayette 13, Binghamton 12: Tom Galgano and Kyle Tiernan each had a pair of ground balls for the Bearcats.
