A battle of the Island’s and country’s best went Smithtown West‘s way, thanks in large part to Danny Caddigan.
The Team 91 2021 Blaze sniper eclipsed the 50-goal plateau for the season with a hat trick – his fourth straight game with at least three goals – and Marc Cottage (’19 White/Wingate) added a goal and a helper as the Bulls ran past Ward Melville, 11-8.
Spencer Frank (’19 White/Hartford) added an assist for Smithtown West, which claimed its 11th straight win after dropping its season opener.
Syosset 14, Carey 6: Andrew Giovinco (’19 Orange/Air Force) dished out three assists, while Tommy Dolciotto (’20 Crush/Stony Brook) and Christian Lyons (’19 White/Manhattan) both added a goal as the Braves won their 10th straight.
Garden City 13, Loyola 3: Gavin Pappas (’19 White/Denison) had two goals and an assist and Will Puccio (’19 White/Trinity) tacked on a goal as the Trojans stayed perfect.
Massapequa 14, Carey 3: Angelo Petrakis (’19 Orange/Cornell) won 20 of 21 faceoffs and handed out an assist, Sam Lutfi (’19 Orange/Hofstra) added two goals and a helper and defenseman Kenny Brower (Duke) netted a goal and guided a stingy defense as the Chiefs buzzed to their seventh straight win.
Stony Brook 11, Masters 10: Nick Jaferis (’23 Warriors) scored twice and dished out two assists in Stony Brook’s win.
Calhoun 17, Holy Trinity 1: Nick Turrini (’19 Orange/Army) bagged four goals and chipped in a pair of assists and Kyle Munson (’19 Orange/Drexel) only had to make one save as Calhoun cruised.
Chaminade 18, Christian Brothers 5: Ryan Aljader (’20 Orange) stopped two shots in split duty in the Flyers’ win.
Northport 6, West Islip 3: Ryan McCarthy (’21 Ambush) tallied once as Northport doubled West Islip up in a defensive slugfest. Jared Paquette (’19 White/Yale) stopped 11 shots to keep West Islip in it.
Smithtown East 11, Connetquot 6: Tyler Cordes (’20 Crush/Navy) paired a goal with an assist, Jack Ponzio (’23 Bandits) scored once and Michael Carere (’19 White/Saint Joseph’s) tacked on assist for Connetquot.
Sachem East 12, Half Hollow Hills East 10: Brett Martin (’20 Crush/Johns Hopkins) zipped home four goals and Sam Rothman (’21 Ambush) tallied twice and added an assist for Hills East.
Huntington 12, Lindenhurst 6: Matt Josefson (’20 Orange) put up a hat trick for Lindy, while Ron Durante (’20 Orange) added eight saves.
Riverhead 9, Sachem North 8: Matt Keegan (’21 Blaze) netted two goals and handed out an assist for Sachem North.
