It’s not unheard of, but it’s still a pretty rare feat. Scoring your first career varsity goal as an eighth grader is always an impressive accomplishment.
Team 91 2025 Shock standout Gary Merrill did just that Friday, firing home his first tally and also chipping in assist for his first two points as Bayport-Blue Point handled Port Jefferson, 13-3.
’24 Wolfpack Maclin Keyser also buried his first varsity goal for BBP, while ‘Pack teammates Ryan Hannaford and defenseman Mikey Luce recorded their first points with an assist each.
’22 Smash Jameson Smith (Johns Hopkins) set up three goals and tallied twice, ’22 Smash Gavin LoCascio (UMass) scored twice and added an assist and ’24 Wolfpack Ben Morris ripped home a pair of goals. ’23 Bandits Eric Grahn made three saves and recorded the win in split duty. ’23 Bandits JJ Aiello was a perfect 8-for-8 at the faceoff X.

’22 Smash defenseman Michael Trepeta (Johns Hopkins) fired home his first career goal to pace the Mustangs.
’22 Smash Joey Spallina (Syracuse) tossed out four assists and netted a hat trick for Mount Sinai, which also got matching one-goal, two-assist days from ’22 Smash James Carretta (Georgetown) and ’24 Wolfpack Lucas LaForge. ’23 Bandits Jake Spallina was a perfect 10-for-10 at the faceoff X and scored once. Mount Sinai won every faceoff thanks to a perfect 11-for-11 day from Austin Oppenheim (Fairfield).
’22 Smash Gavin Takacs (Stony Brook) pocketed a pair of goals. ’23 Warriors Cole Marsala set up a pair of goals and ’23 Warriors Brayden Wilcken denied three shots in split duty.

’21 Blaze defenseman Jake Wilson (Duke) scored a goal for the second straight game. ’21 Blaze Robbie Troyano secured the win with seven saves and ’21 Blaze Johnny Schwarz (North Carolina) had a goal and an assist in the win.
Comsewogue 12, Hauppauge 5
’21 Blaze Mason Oak (Quinnipiac) tossed aside a half-dozen shots for ‘Wogue.

’21 Ambush Danny Zabbia (Pace) ripped home a pair of goals and added an assist to pace Hills West.
