Jack Flaherty is on fire!

The Team 91 2022 Smash alum by way of Chaminade couldn’t miss for Navy on Saturday. Flaherty torched Boston University for his first career hat trick to lead the Midshipmen to a 13-9 win over the Terriers in both teams’ Patriot League opener.

Flaherty wasn’t just a goal scorer, though. The 6-6 junior midfielder also handed out a career-best three assists for a career-high six points on the day. He has already surpassed his career high for points in a season five games in to the season, helping Navy to a 4-1 record in the process.

’23 Bandits Jack Ponzio (St. Anthony’s) had a pair of assists, a takeaway and a ground ball for the Mids.

Towson 17, UMBC 10

’23 Ronan Fitzpatrick (Sayville) kept his red-hot start to the season going as he ripped home four goals and added three assists for a career-best seven points to help the Tigers pick up their first win of the season.

Penn State 15, Yale 9

’24 Wolfpack Hunter Aquino (Academy of the New Church, Pa.) continued his excellent start to his freshman campaign with career bests in both assists (five) and points (seven) to help the Nittany Lions tame the Bulldogs.

Aquino, who also added a ground ball, ranks first on the team in assists and second in points as a true freshman.

’21 Blaze faceoff midfielder Machado Rodriguez (Chaminade) won eight faceoffs and grabbed four ground balls for the Bulldogs. Yale got five saves and a caused turnover in split duty from ’19 White goalie Jared Paquette (West Islip)’22 Smash defenseman Patrick Pisano (Cold Spring Harbor) picked up three ground balls and took the ball away once for Yale, which also got a ground ball from ’19 Orange defenseman Mikey Alexander (West Islip).

Hofstra 15, Binghamton 5

Usually known as a lefty sniper, ’22 Smash Anthony Mollica (Massapequa) was at his playmaking best for the Pride. Mollica handed out a career-best three assists to go with a goal and a ground ball as Hofstra cruised. ’21 Blaze SSDM Chris Barry (East Meadow) caused a turnover and scooped a ground ball in the win.

Lehigh 10, Villanova 7

’24 Wolfpack Luke Breslin (St. Anthony’s) had a career-high three assists to go with a goal as the Mountain Hawks picked up their first win of the season. The standout freshman also added a takeaway and a ground ball in the win.

’20 Crush faceoff midfielder Koby Ginder (Brunswick, Conn.) helped the Tigers to a pair of statement wins in their trip to North Carolina. Ginder had six faceoff wins and a pair of ground balls in an overtime thriller against the Blue Devils. He then added three faceoff wins, two ground balls and a takeaway as the Tigers topped the Tar Heels.

’23 Bandits Owen Duffy (St. Anthony’s) paired a goal with an assist to go with a takeaway in UNC’s win over Penn. He then went off for a hat trick, two assists and a ground ball against Princeton. ’20 Crush Ryan Levy (East Chapel Hill, N.C. / Taft, Conn.) snapped home a pair of goals against the Quakers before adding a goal and a ground ball against the Tigers.

’20 Crush Andrew McAdorey (St. Anthony’s) once again paced the Blue Devils’ offense. He went off for two goals, two assists and a ground ball against Princeton before firing home a goal against Penn.

’24 Wolfpack defenseman Dante Vardaro (St. Anthony’s) had his first career caused turnover to go with a pair of ground balls for the Quakers against the Tar Heels. ’23 Bandits Leo Hoffman (Brunswick, Conn.) scored once and added a helper against UNC.

UMass 10, Albany 9

’22 Smash defenseman Max Neeson (Pottsgrove, Pa.) did his best to keep the Great Danes in it with a four-caused turnover, three-ground ball day. Albany also got 13 saves from ’24 Wolfpack goalie Brady Smith (Bayport-Blue Point), while ’22 Smash Alex Pfeiffer (Sachem North) paired a goal with an assist and also chipped in a ground ball. The Great Danes also got four faceoff wins and three ground balls from ’22 Smash Austin Oppenheim (Mount Sinai).

Syracuse 15, Utah 5

’22 Smash Joey Spallina (Mount Sinai) set up a trio of goals and ’22 Smash Michael Leo (St. Anthony’s) tallied twice and added a ground ball as the Orange downed the Utes.

’20 Crush defenseman Nick Caccamo (Harborfields) led a stingy defensive effort with two ground balls. The ’23 Bandits midfield duo of Tyler McCarthy (Connetquot) and Jake Spallina (Mount Sinai) each added a ground ball in the win.

Johns Hopkins 13, Virginia 12

’23 Bandits LSM Luke Martin (St. Anthony’s) caused a turnover to help the Blue Jays fend off the ‘Hoos for the fifth win in their first six games.

Delaware 11, High Point 6

’20 Orange Cory Capri (John Glenn / Hill School, Pa.) set up a goal and picked up a ground ball as the Blue Hens won for the third time in their first four games.

Cornell 22, Hobart 9

’21 Blaze Danny Caddigan (Smithtown West) got on the board for the first time this season with a man-up finish as the Big Red rolled.

Harvard 20, Marquette 16

’23 Bandits Jack Speidell (St. Anthony’s) continued his hot start to the season with a pair of assists to highlight the Crimson’s offensive explosion.

Dartmouth 14, Vermont 9

’22 Smash Brandon Ventarola (Trinity-Pawling) scored once and also picked up a ground ball in the Big Green’s victory.

LIU 15, Bellarmine 9

’23 Warriors goalie Brayden Wilcken (Mount Sinai) shined bright in the LIU cage. He stopped 11 shots, scooped up five ground balls and caused a turnover to help shut down the Knights’ offense.

’21 Blaze defenseman AJ Volkmann (Mount Sinai) picked up two ground balls in the win.

St. Bonaventure 11, Mercyhurst 9
Le Moyne 10, St. Bonaventure 9

’23 Warriors PJ Shanahan (Bayport-Blue Point) scored back-to-back goals to give the Bonnies a lead they’d never relinquish to top Mercyhurst. Shanahan finished with three goals, an assist and a whopping six ground balls in the win. He followed it up with a goal and a pair of ground balls against Le Moyne.

’22 Smash SSDM Jaden Baldwin (St. Dominic) secured a ground ball for the Seawolves.

Maryland 11, Notre Dame 10

’23 Bandits Jordan Faison (Pine Crest, Fla.) bagged a pair of goals to go with a takeaway and a ground ball for the Irish in a national championship game rematch. ’23 Bandits Brock Behrman (Salisbury, Conn.) picked up a ground ball for Notre Dame.

Georgetown 13, Brown 8

’24 Wolfpack Michael Moon (St. Anthony’s) recorded his first career faceoff win for the Bears. ’22 Smash Marcus Wertheim (Smithtown East) scored once added a ground ball, while ’20 Crush SSDM Kevin Sweeney (Mount Sinai) also secured a ground ball for Brown.

’21 Blaze goalie Mason Oak (Comsewogue) stopped eight shots against Air Force and made a dozen more stops for the Bobcats against the Pioneers. He scooped up a combined five ground balls in the two games.

’23 Warriors Nick Meoni (Sachem North) picked up a combined four ground balls and caused a turnover in both games for Quinnipiac. The Bobcats also got a ground ball against Air Force from ’23 Bandits LSM Glenn Platania (St. Anthony’s).

’21 Blaze defenseman Aiden McCaffrey (Comsewogue) collected three ground balls and dislodged a turnover for the Red Foxes against the Falcons. ’23 Warriors LSM Michael Cassano (MacArthur) paired a takeaway with a ground ball for Marist.

Cassano also took the ball away once against the Pioneers, while McCaffrey chipped in a ground ball in that game.

Saint Joseph’s 11, Rutgers 5

’23 Bandits JJ Aiello (Bayport-Blue Point) set up a goal and vacuumed up a pair of ground balls for the Scarlet Knights.

Jacksonville 11, St. John’s 10

’24 Wolfpack Maclin Keyer (Bayport-Blue Point) snared a trio of ground balls and caused a turnover for the Red Storm.

Drexel 21, Mercer 6

’21 Blaze Chris Cappelmann (Smithtown East) won 10 faceoffs and picked up five ground balls for the Bears.

Pace 13, Wilmington 8

’21 Ambush Danny Zabbia (Half Hollow Hills West) twice found the back of the net to go with three ground balls for the Setters. ’21 Ambush Timmy Morrow (Massapequa) set up a goal in the win.

Division III

Denison 19, Baldwin Wallace 9
Denison 14, Washington & Lee 12 

’24 Menace LSM Khari Freeman (Poly Prep) pocketed his first career goal to go with four ground balls as Denison dominated Baldwin Wallace.

Freeman then added a pair of ground balls in the win over top-5 W&L.

Cortland 22, Brockport 7

’21 Ambush Sam Rothman (Half Hollow Hills East) went OFF for the Red Dragons, scoring five times and grabbing three ground balls in their rout over Brockport. He tacked on an assist and two ground balls against RPI.

’21 Ambush defenseman Logan Schanars (Half Hollow Hills East) corralled a ground ball in the Cortland win.

Western Connecticut State 15

’23 Warriors defenseman Ryan Thorne (Newfield) was a defensive force for USMMA, snagging three ground balls to go with a takeaway.

Norwich 19, Plattsburgh 13
Plattsburgh 12, Sage 9

’23 Warriors Peter Urso (Bay Shore) had himself a week for the Cardinals. Urso hit up Norwich for three goals and an assist. He then tagged Sage for a goal, an assist, a takeaway and a ground ball.

Immaculata 18, Fairleigh Dickinson 13

’21 Ambush defenseman Aidan Bonn (Huntington) was outstanding for FDU, causing three turnovers and picking up three ground balls.

Ithaca 15, Geneseo 6

The ’21 Ambush duo of Andrew Tittmann (Northport / six saves) and Wes Ralph (Harborfields / three saves) combined for nine saves for Geneseo.

Montclair State 19, New Paltz 8

’21 Ambush Anthony Senecal (Patchogue-Medford) set up a goal and added a ground ball for New Paltz.
