What a statement win for Syracuse.
Down by two midway through the third quarter in a top-10 clash with longtime rival Johns Hopkins, the Orange got three goals in 51 seconds to give them a spark that they rode en route to a 13-10 win over the Blue Jays.
’20 Tyler Cordes (Connetquot) started the run with a goal as part of a career-best two-goal, two-assist day. ’22 Smash Michael Leo (St. Anthony’s) scored 36 seconds later and, later, iced the game with another tally to highlight his hat trick. ’22 Smash Joey Spallina (Mount Sinai) then followed with one of the more clever hidden-ball tricks that you’ll see. Spallina finished with two goals, two assists and three ground balls for Syracuse.
’23 Bandits SSDM Jake Spallina (Mount Sinai) caused a key turnover and picked up a ground ball. ’20 Crush defenseman Nick Caccamo (Harborfields) snared a ground ball, too.

’21 Blaze faceoff midfielder Mac Rodriguez (Chaminade) was exceptional for the Bulldogs with a 19-for-24, 10-ground-ball day as Yale picked up its first win of the season.
The defensive tandem of ’19 Orange Mikey Alexander (West Islip) and ’22 Smash Patrick Pisano (Cold Spring Harbor) each added a takeaway and a ground ball.

’23 Bandits Jack Speidell (St. Anthony’s) stayed hot with a pair of goals – including a nasty around-the-world finish – and two assists as the Crimson won their third straight. Speidell also collected a whopping five ground balls to go with an assist.

’23 Bandits Owen Duffy (St. Anthony’s) had a season-best four assists to go with two goals and a ground ball as the Tar Heels rolled. ’20 Crush Ryan Levy (East Chapel Hill, N.C. / Taft, Conn.) put forth a goal and an assist in the win.
’22 Smash Anthony Mollica (Massapequa) scooped up a ground ball for the Pride.
Lehigh 13, Navy 8
’24 Wolfpack Luke Breslin (St. Anthony’s) cashed in for his first career hat trick to go with three ground balls to lead the Mountain Hawks to a key Patriot League win.
’23 Bandits Jack Ponzio (St. Anthony’s) had a career day, sniping five goals and adding an assist for Navy.
Penn State 13, Cornell 12
’24 Wolfpack Hunter Aquino (Academy of the New Church, Pa.) set up the game-tying goal with 17 seconds to play, then set up the overtime game-winner as the Nittany Lions stunned Cornell with a massive comeback.
Aquino finished with a goal and four helpers, as well as two ground balls. He’s been arguably the best freshman in the country.

’21 Blaze Matt Keegan (Sachem North) buried his second hat trick as a Terp to go with an assist as Maryland rolled.

’20 Crush Andrew McAdorey (St. Anthony’s) played the role of provider for the Blue Devils, setting up three goals and scoring one to go with a ground ball as Duke flew past the Falcons.

’22 Smash Marcus Wertheim (Smithtown East) scored twice, set up another goal, picked up two ground balls and caused a turnover as the Bears won the Ocean State Cup for the first time since 2022.

’23 Bandits Leo Hoffman (Brunswick, Conn.) created offense with a pair of assists and ’24 Wolfpack defenseman Dante Vardaro (St. Anthony’s) caused a turnover to help the Quakers fend off the Wildcats.

’20 Crush Koby Ginder (Brunswick, Conn.) gave the Tigers a lift at the faceoff stripe by going 6-for-11 with a ground ball in a win over their in-state rivals.
’23 Bandits JJ Aiello (Bayport-Blue Point) scored once and picked up two ground balls for the Scarlet Knights.

’21 Blaze SSDM Ryan Baudo (St. Anthony’s) buried a goal and added a ground ball to lead the Sharks to their fifth straight win.
’23 Warriors goalie Brayden Wilcken (Mount Sinai) denied a dozen shots in the Sharks’ cage. He also added a pair of ground balls in the win. ’21 Blaze defenseman AJ Volkmann (Mount Sinai) also corralled a ground ball for the Sharks.

’24 Wolfpack goalie Brady Smith (Bayport-Blue Point) stuffed 10 shots, added a rare goalie assist and picked up a ground ball to help the Great Danes earn a split of last week’s games. Smith made 11 saves and collected three ground balls against the Hoyas.
’22 Smash Alex Pfeiffer (Sachem North) paired a goal with an assist in the win over the Statesmen. Pfeiffer had a goal and a ground ball against Georgetown. ’22 Smash defenseman Max Neeson (Pottsgrove, Pa.) racked up a trio of ground balls in both games and also added two takeaways against the Hoyas. ’22 Smash faceoff midfielder Austin Oppenheim (Mount Sinai) won four faceoff and scooped up a ground ball against the Hoyas. He added a pair of faceoff wins and two ground balls in the victory. ’23 Warriors James Reid (Sachem North) grabbed one ground ball against the Hoyas.

’21 Ambush Ryan McCarthy (Northport) dished out a pair of assists to go with a ground ball for Siena against Dartmouth. McCarthy tacked on a pair of ground balls against the Bearcats. ’24 Wolfpack SSDM Ryan Wilson (Shoreham-Wading River) had two ground balls against the Big Green before causing a turnover and snagging the ensuing ground ball against Binghamton.

’21 Chris Cappelmann (Smithtown East) was 10-for-17 with three ground balls for Mercer against the Bonnies. He followed it up with eight faceoff wins and a pair of ground balls against Le Moyne.
