When all else fails, just give Brennan O’Neill the ball and let him cook.
Duke smartly used that strategy down the stretch and it paid off in its 14-13 overtime win against Denver. The ’20 Crush attackman from St. Anthony’s tied the game up with 19 seconds left with a nasty question mark goal. Then, in overtime, he took a feed from fellow Crush and St. Anthony’s product Andrew McAdorey and ripped home a high-to-high crank to end it for the Blue Devils.
O’Neill finished with a whopping four goals, three assists and two ground balls. McAdorey tallied up three assists to go with two goals, while ’19 Orange defenseman Kenny Brower (Massapequa) dislodged a pair of turnovers to lead the Duke defense. ’19 Orange LSM Tyler Carpenter (Salisbury, Conn.) was a menace in the middle of the field with four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
’20 Crush Aidan Danenza (St. Anthony’s) chipped in a goal and a caused turnover, while ’18 Extreme Owen Caputo (Middle Creek, N.C.) tallied once and grabbed a ground ball.

’19 Orange Christian Mulé (Half Hollow Hills West) continued his torrid start to his senior campaign with a superb five-goal, one-assist, one-ground ball day to help the Mountain Hawks storm back from an early deficit.

’19 Orange running mate John Sidorski (East Islip) buried a goal and set up both Mulé and another ’19 Orange standout, Justin Tiernan (Glenn) for goals while also picking up a pair of ground balls. Tiernan finished with a hat trick, an assist and two ground balls.
Binghamton 12, St. Bonaventure 11
’21 Matt Keegan (Sachem North) started the scoring for the Bearcats and also ended it, rifling home a man-up bomb in overtime for his fourth goal of the game to give Binghamton its second straight win to start the season.
Keegan finished with four goals, an assist and a ground ball for the Bearcats. ’18 Extreme Max Verch (Syosset) collected a pair of ground balls in the win.

’19 White Jared Paquette (West Islip) was fantastic in goal for the Bulldogs, stymying 18 shots fired his way to help Yale open its season in style.
Fellow West Islip alum ’19 Orange Mikey Alexander paced the defense with two ground balls and a caused turnover. ’21 Blaze Machado Rodriguez (Chaminade) won three faceoffs and collected ground balls on two of them.
Cornell 12, Albany 10
’19 Orange Angelo Petrakis (Massapequa) won seven faceoffs and collected five ground balls to help last year’s national runners-up start their season with a win.
’22 Smash Austin Oppenheim (Mount Sinai) collected his first career faceoff win for the Great Danes. Albany also got three ground balls and a caused turnover from ’22 Smash Max Neeson (Pottsgrove, Pa.).

’20 Crush Jayson Tingue (Bay Shore) was brilliant in the Retrievers’ cage, stopping 10 shots and snaring a ground ballm to pace UMBC in its season opener.

’21 Blaze Johnny Schwarz (Shoreham-Wading River) doled out an assist to fuel UNC’s mid-week win over the Blue Jays. His twin brother, ’21 Blaze LSM Tyler Schwarz, helped the Tar Heels limit Hopkins to one second-half goal to kickstart a comeback. ’20 Crush SSDM Brett Martin (Half Hollow Hills East) collected a ground ball for the Blue Jays.
Johnny Schwarz scored once and grabbed a pair of ground balls against the Buckeyes. Tyler Schwarz added a caused turnover and a ground ball.

’21 Blaze Brandon Ventarola (Trinity-Pawling) helped the Big Green start their season off in style with a goal, three ground balls and a caused turnover.

’22 Smash Anthony Mollica (Massapequa) found the back of the net for the first time in his Pride career. ’19 Orange Sam Lutfi (Massapequa) also tallied once for Hofstra.

’19 White Christian Lyons (Syosset) snagged a ground ball to help the Jaspers stun the Midshipmen. ’22 Smash Jack Flaherty (Chaminade) tallied once for Navy, while ’20 Crush defenseman Nick LiCalzi (South Side) started and helped limit the Manhattan offense to six goals. ’20 Crush Xavier Arline (Shoreham-Wading River) had a ground ball for the Mids.

’20 Orange defenseman Colby Suglia (Mattituck) caused havoc with a pair of caused turnovers and two ground balls to help the Royals win their first game as a Division I program.

’19 White defenseman Alex Keener (Bethpage) corralled a pair of ground balls and caused a turnover to pace the Hawks in their second straight win. ’18 Extreme Ryan Doran (Half Hollow Hills East) buried a goal in the win.
