Team 91 alums put on the best offensive and defensive performances of the day with two of the top-5 teams in the country squaring off Saturday in Charlottesville.
Team 91 2020 Crush attackman Brennan O’Neill (St. Anthony’s) was at the forefront on the offensive end. O’Neill tied a career-high with six goals and put up a new career high with nine points to help Duke topple No. 1 Virginia, 16-14, in a classic between the ACC rivals.

On the other end, ’19 Orange defenseman Kenny Brower didn’t record anything in the stat line. The Massapequa lefty defenseman was the talk of the game, though, as he limited UVA star Connor Shellenberger to zero goals, three assists and one shot on goal to spearhead the Blue Devils’ defense.
’19 Orange LSM Tyler Carpenter (Salisbury, Conn.) was a presence in the middle of the field yet again. Carpenter snagged a half-dozen ground balls and caused a turnover for Duke. ’20 Crush Aidan Danenza (St. Anthony’s) tallied twice and added a ground ball in the win. ’18 Extreme Owen Caputo (Middle Creek, N.C.) scored once and picked up a ground ball. His brother, ’19 Orange Jake Caputo (Middle Creek, N.C.) dished out a helper and grabbed a ground ball. ’20 Crush Andrew McAdorey (St. Anthony’s) secured a ground ball in the win, Duke’s eighth straight.

’19 Orange Christian Mulé (Half Hollow Hills West) collected his second consecutive seven-point game on the heels of a five-assist, two-goal, one-ground ball performance for the Mountain Hawks. ’19 Orange Justin Tiernan (Glenn) racked up his sixth straight hat trick thanks to a four-goal, one-ground ball day. ’19 Orange John Sidorski (East Islip) set up a goal and snared two ground balls in the win.

’21 Matt Keegan (Sachem North) continued his barrage of goals with a career-high seven goals to go with an assist. It marked his fourth-straight game of at least a hat trick and at least five points. Keegan now ranks eighth nationally in goals with 33.
’18 Extreme defenseman Max Verch (Syosset) racked up two ground balls and a caused turnover for the Bearcats.

Siena 13, Wagner 6
’21 Ambush Ryan McCarthy (Northport) went off for Siena against Wagner, blasting home a hat trick and handing out four assists. McCarthy, who also caused a turnover, set career highs in goals, assists and points in a single game. ’20 Crush defenseman Trevor Marsala (Mount Sinai) had two caused turnovers and a ground ball against Wagner after taking the ball away three times and snatching four ground balls against Canisius. McCarthy chipped in an assist and a ground ball in that win.

’20 Crush SSDM Brett Martin (Half Hollow Hills East) also showed off his offensive chops with two goals, including the 50-yard sidearm rip above, as the Blue Jays knocked off the Scarlet Knights. Martin also took the ball away twice for red-hot Hopkins, which has won five straight and seven of eight.
’18 Extreme LSM Ethan Rall (Islip) grabbed five ground balls and caused a turnover for Rutgers, which also got nine saves and a ground ball in relief from ’18 Extreme Anthony Palma (East Islip).

’20 Crush defenseman Nick LiCalzi (South Side) engulfed a trio of ground balls and ’22 Smash Jack Flaherty (Chaminade) paired an assist with a ground ball as the Mids upset the Terriers.

The Falcons couldn’t pull off the upset of the Utes despite a ridiculous nine-ground ball, two-caused turnover, 10-for-15 on faceoffs day from ’20 Crush LSM Chris Bardak (St. Anthony’s). Bardak helped Air Force back into the win column with four ground balls, a caused turnover and two faceoff wins against the Vikings.
Albany 12, UMBC 6
’22 Smash faceoff midfielder Austin Oppenheim (Mount Sinai) had a breakout game for Albany, setting a career-high in faceoff wins as part of a 7-for-11 day at the stripe to go with three ground balls.
’22 Smash defenseman Max Neeson (Pottsgrove, Pa.) started for the Great Danes and helped Albany’s defense stymie UMBC. ’22 Smash Alex Pfeiffer (Sachem North) caused a turnover and grabbed a ground ball.
’20 Crush goalie Jayson Tingue (Bay Shore) kept the Retrievers in it with 13 saves and four ground balls.

’20 Crush Koby Ginder (Brunswick, Conn.) had his best collegiate day with 11 faceoff wins, seven ground balls, two caused turnovers and an assist to help the Tigers upend the Bears.
’22 Smash Marcus Wertheim (Smithtown East) had a goal for Brown in its upset of the top-10 Wildcats. Wertheim chipped in an assist and two ground balls against Princeton, while ’20 Crush SSDM Kevin Sweeney (Mount Sinai) added a ground ball.

The Big Red kept rolling, thanks in large part to a 7-for-13 day, complete with two ground balls, from ’19 Orange Angelo Petrakis (Massapequa).
’21 Blaze Brandon Ventarola (Trinity-Pawling) scored once for the Big Green.

’19 Orange LSM Greg Campisi (St. Anthony’s) took the ball away once and added a ground ball to help the Crimson fend off the Raiders’ upset bid.

’19 White defenseman Alex Keener (Bethpage) collected a trio of ground balls as the Hawks upended the Spiders.

’22 Smash Joey Spallina (Mount Sinai) and ’22 Smash Michael Leo (St. Anthony’s) each paired a goal with an assist for the Orange. Leo chipped in two ground balls and a caused turnover, while Spallina picked up a loose ball.
’22 Smash LSM Dylan Sageder (Mount Sinai) had a caused turnover and a ground ball and ’20 Crush defenseman Nick Caccamo (Harborfields) added a ground ball.

’19 White goalie Jared Paquette (West Islip) denied a baker’s dozen shots from the Quakers to go with a ground ball for the Bulldogs. Yale also got three caused turnovers and two ground balls from ’19 Orange defenseman Mikey Alexander (West Islip). ’21 Machado Rodriguez (Chaminade) won four faceoffs, scored a goal and collected two ground balls for the Bulldogs.
