Robbie Varello didn’t waste any time in making an impression in his return to Farmingdale State.

The Team 91 2018 alum by way of Smithtown East tied a school record with a whopping nine goals to go along with an assist as the Rams romped past Mitchell, 26-2, in their season opener.

Varello also caused a pair of turnovers and grabbed two ground balls for Farmingdale.

Catholic 20, Mary Washington 10
Roanoke 14, Catholic 12

’17 Sean Baudo (St. Anthony’s) pocketed four goals and a ground ball in Catholic’s doubling up of Mary Washington. He later added a pair of goals and a ground ball against Roanoke.

Franklin & Marshall 19, Lebanon Valley 6

’19 White Kyle Craig (Wantagh) dislodged a turnover and grabbed a ground ball as the Diplomats cruised in their season opener.

Western Connecticut 17, Sage 5

’17 Jac Cutillo (Kings Park) dished out an assist to highlight West Conn’s blowout win.

RPI 18, Coast Guard 8

’21 Ambush Trey Berry (Chaminade) paired a caused turnover with a ground ball in RPI’s rout.

Division I

Duke 19, Denver 10

’20 Crush Brennan O’Neill (St. Anthony’s) went off for four goals and two assists and ’19 Orange LSM Tyler Carpenter (Salisbury, Conn.) snagged seven ground balls and tossed out an assist as the Blue Devils romped in a battle of top-11 teams. ’17 Sean Lulley (Half Hollow Hills East) supplied two goals and two assists to go with a ground ball.

Duke, which started five Team 91 alums, also got a goal apiece from ’17 Cameron Mulé (Half Hollow Hills West)’20 Crush Aidan Danenza (St. Anthony’s) and ’19 Orange Jake Caputo (Middle Creek, N.C.)’20 Crush Andrew McAdorey (St. Anthony’s) tossed out an assist, ’19 Orange Kenny Brower (Massapequa) caused a turnover and ’18 Extreme Frank Marinello (Chaminade) grabbed a pair of ground balls.

’18 Extreme Jordan Ginder (Brunswick, Conn.) won a faceoff.

Yale 17, Villanova 14

’19 White Jared Paquette (West Islip) was stout in his first career start, making nine saves, while ’19 Orange defenseman Mikey Alexander (West Islip) had a caused turnover and a ground ball as the Bulldogs won their season opener.

’21 Blaze Mac Rodriguez (Chaminade) won 10 faceoffs and gobbled up six ground balls for Yale, which also got a goal from ’17 Luke Eschbach (Smithtown East).

Stony Brook 18, Robert Morris 14

’17 Kevin Mack (Manhasset) ran the Seawolves’ offensive explosion with two goals and four assists to go with a ground ball and ’18 Extreme Anthony Palma (East Islip) stoned 17 shots in the win.

Fairfield 16, Wagner 9

’17 Taylor Strough (Cold Spring Harbor) was on fire for the Stags, scoring on five of his seven shots to go with a ground ball, as Fairfield picked up its first win of the season.

Harvard 17, NJIT 4

’19 Orange LSM Greg Campisi (St. Anthony’s) made up for lost time in Harvard’s return to action with a whopping four caused turnovers and four ground balls as the Crimson cruised.

UMBC 12, Drexel 8

’17 Tommy Lingner (St. Anthony’s) was in midseason form in the Retrievers’ season opener as he tossed aside 11 shots and collected four ground balls to pace UMBC’s win.

Rutgers 13, Army 10

’18 Extreme LSM Ethan Rall (Islip) snagged three ground balls as the Scarlet Knights took home a win in a battle of nationally-ranked teams.

Cornell 16, Albany 8

’19 Orange Angelo Petrakis (Massapequa) won 10 faceoffs and snared a pair of ground balls while ’17 LSM Joe Bartolotto (Miller Place) collected a ground ball to pace the Big Red.

Michigan 20, Holy Cross 3

’19 Orange Justin Brown (Half Hollow Hills West) scored once and ’20 Crush LSM Trevor Kessel (Shoreham-Wading River) collected two ground balls as the Wolverines picked up their third straight win.

Johns Hopkins 11, Loyola 10 

’20 Crush Brett Martin (Half Hollow Hills East) was a dominant force from his SSDM spot, picking up five ground balls, tossing out an assist and causing a turnover to help the Blue Jays record the 1,000th win in program history.

LIU 12, Quinnipiac 7

’19 Orange Blake Behlen (Commack) buried a pair of goals to help the Sharks swim past Quinnipiac.

Brown 19, Quinnipiac 13

’20 Crush Kevin Sweeney (Mount Sinai) grabbed a ground ball to help the Bears to a season-opening win.

Navy 13, Hofstra 6
Navy 9, Manhattan 6

’20 Crush Nick LiCalzi (South Side) led a staunch Navy defense with a ground ball against Hofstra. He added another ground ball and helped keep the Jaspers off the scoreboard in the fourth quarter to cement the Midshipmen’s win.

’19 White Christian Lyons (Syosset) had a caused turnover and a ground ball for Manhattan.

Princeton 22, Monmouth 6

’20 Crush Koby Ginder (Brunswick, Conn. / IMG, Fla.) won a pair of faceoffs in his collegiate debut for the Tigers.

Saint Joseph’s 15, Penn State 13

’19 White defenseman Alex Keener (Bethpage) knocked out a turnover and snagged a ground ball as the Hawks recorded their first win over Penn State in program history.

Hobart 14, Lehigh 13

’19 Orange Christian Mulé (Half Hollow Hills West) tallied twice and had two ground balls and a caused turnover for the Mountain Hawks. ’19 Orange Nick Turrini (Calhoun) grabbed three ground balls for Lehigh.

Colgate 11, Air Force 8

’20 Crush LSM Chris Bardak (St. Anthony’s) was his usual active self for the Falcons, snagging five ground balls and causing three turnovers.

Merrimack 8, Dartmouth 6

’21 Blaze Brandon Ventarola (Trinity-Pawling) earned a spot in the starting lineup in his first career game and picked up two ground balls for the Big Green.

Providence 13, Siena 8

’20 Crush Trevor Marsala (Mount Sinai) had a caused turnover for the Saints.

Maryland 14, Syracuse 10

’20 Crush Tyler Cordes (Connetquot) chipped in an assist for the Orange.

’19 Orange Larry Cangro (Eastport-South Manor) scooped up a ground ball for the Red Foxes.

Queens 16, Mount Olive 6

’20 Orange Colby Suglia (Mattituck) caused a turnover and snagged a ground ball in Queens’ statement win over top-15 Mount Olive.

Florida Tech 17, Flagler 6

’19 White Nick Cannetti (Sayville) racked up a five ground ball, one caused turnover day as Florida Tech rolled.

Le Moyne 15, Wingate 11

’19 White Marc Cottage (Smithtown West) buried a goal for Wingate.
