Looks like the Big Ten Freshman of the Year’s ready to make a run at Big Ten Player of the Year.

Team 91 2024 Wolfpack standout Hunter Aquino wasted no time in making an impact in Penn State‘s opener. Aquino bumped up to attack from midfield and popped off for five goals and an assist to lead the Nittany Lions to an 18-14 win over Colgate.

The reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Year from Academy of the New Church (Pa.) also chipped in a pair of ground balls for PSU.

Syracuse 13, Boston University 6 

Preseason Tewaaraton favorite ’22 Smash Joey Spallina (Mount Sinai) led the charge for the Orange with a three-goal, two-assist, one-ground ball day as the Orange stormed past the Terriers with a strong second half.

The ’23 Bandits midfield duo of Tyler McCarthy (Connetquot, one assist) and Jake Spallina (Mount Sinai, one caused turnover) did some excellent work off the ground with four ground balls apiece. Preseason All-American ’22 Smash Michael Leo (St. Anthony’s) tallied twice and scooped up one ground ball for ‘Cuse, which also got a takeaway from ’24 Wolfpack LSM Vinny Bolognino (Harborfields).

’24 Wolfpack defenseman Mikey Luce (Bayport-Blue Point) led the BU defense with a pair of ground balls.

Michigan 24, Mercyhurst 2

’25 Shock Alex Bauer (Cold Spring Harbor) celebrated his collegiate debut with an assist for the Wolverines. ’23 Bandits defenseman Kevin Kearns (St. Anthony’s) pilfered a takeaway in the win.

Mercer 18, Hampton 9

’21 Blaze faceoff midfielder Chris Cappelmann (Smithtown East) was dominant at the faceoff stripe, winning 20 of 23 draws to spearhead the Bears’ rout. Cappelmann collected a whopping 16 ground balls and added an assist in the win.
