TEAM 91 DOMINATES THE COMPETITION FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW
AT FUSION LACROSSE NE REGIONAL EVENT - WINS 3 OF 4 BRACKETS
Team 91 Select Box's 5th/6th grade team played in the 2022 bracket and went undefeated en route to their first championship of the season. The team defeated Bucks Select (PA) 11-0, Eagle Box (NJ) 9-2, Patriot (NJ) 6-3 and host Fusion (PA) 10-2 before facing undefeated Superstar (NY/CT) in the championship. After a tight first half that saw Team 91 Select leading 3-2, the boys were able to pull away and win the game with a final of 11-5. Timely goals by pumped in by Peter Moynihan, Anthony Mollica and Nicky Barbero and the defense was backstopped by goaltender Kevin Barrett who allowed a mere 12 goals in 5 games. The boys next competition will be in Washington DC on January 18 at the Capitol Box Classic.
Team 91 Select Box's 7th/8th grade team battled both days this at the event severly shorthanded due to injuries and players vacationing. The boys finished with a 2-2 record defeating Superstar (NY/CT) 9-5 and host Fusion (PA) 14-5. The boys had two setbacks as well, losing to Leading Edge (NJ) 7-5 and Eagle (NJ) 7-0. Not enought can be said about the boys toughness and character playing shorthanded all day. Jimmy Osorio, Rocco Barbero and AJ Volkman led the offense in goals while Alex Pazienza had a great day in net. The boys next competition will be in Feasterville, PA at the NXT Philly Indoor Championship in February.
Team 91 Select Box's JV team went undefeated over the course of five games at this event. The team was led by Owen Caputo, Christian Mule, Timmy Ley and Mikey Gomez as they breazed through pool play defeating Eagle (NJ) 8-2, Blue Star (NJ) 8-2, Fusion (PA) 8-0 and Superstar (NY/CT) 11-1 before shutting out NC Box Stars (NC) 6-0 in the championship. Goaltenders Sawyer Davis and John Hulsman combined to allow only 5 goals in 5 games. It was a great day for all. The Open Bracket at any USBOXLA event is considered some of the best box lacrosse in the nation. The team 91 Varsity Elite team finished pool play 4-0 before defeated a tough Penn*Lax team in the championship. The boys were led by Mac O'Keefe, Will Cabrera, Taylor Strough, Mike and Joe Madsen on offense and had bone crushing defense by Keller Jacobs and Chris Pickel in font of stellar goaltending by Noah Cohen and John Hulsman. The team defeated Fusion (PA) 11-1, Blue Star (NJ) 7-3, Leading Edge (NJ) 6-4 and Duke's Invitational (PA) 11-2 before playing to an 8-3 victory in the championship over Penn*Lax 8-3.
