02/09/2015 8:00 AM -

On Saturday, February 7, Team 91 Founder Brian Spallina and Team 91 Defensive Director Nicky Polanco, were inducted into the Long Island Metro Lacrosse Foundation Hall of Fame in Melville, NY. It was a momentous occasion for Brian and Nicky, celebrating them as some of the best defensemen ever to hail from Long Island. There to celebrate with them was their former coach on the Lizards, Jimmy Mulé, who also was there to welcome former Lizards attackman Tim Goettelman. Below are some quotes from Brian, Nicky and Jimmy. Many congrats guys, very well deserved!

Brian Spallina

1. Whats been your most memorable lacrosse experience?

Tough to pin this down but having the opportunity to be a part of so many successful teams has been very rewarding.  I am humbled that I have been a champion in 6 MLL seasons

2. What is your favorite thing about lacrosse?

TEAM TEAM TEAM!!!!

3. What is one piece of advice you would give young lacrosse players?

To all of the young players listening. Always remember that playing this great game is a privilege and should never be taken for granted.  Always play with passion, heart, and push yourself to be the best you can be.  You should always play with a drive that is unmatched and think that there may be someone there that has never seen you play before.  Its your job to make a lasting impression.

4. What does it mean to you to be inducted into the Lacrosse Hall of Fame?

I am both incredibly humbled and honored to have received this prestigious Hall of Fame honor. I am extremely thankful for this acknowledgement and for being voted in as part of such a great class of players and coaches.  We all know that Long Island IS lacrosse.  It breeds the greatest players to ever play this game, so to be selected as one of the elite players in such a talent rich area is truly an indescribable honor.

Nicky Polanco

1. Whats been your most memorable lacrosse experience?

My family seeing me get to play my whole career. I love looking up into the stands and seeing my family cheering me on. There is no better motivation!

2. What is your favorite thing about lacrosse?

The team dynamic is what makes lacrosse so special and  the competitive nature.

3. What is one piece of advice you would give young lacrosse players?

My advice for the young laxxers would be to work as hard as you can. Hard work got me where I am today, and I am forever grateful to all my coaches who constantly drilled the power of hard work into my head. Focus equally hard in school, lacrosse is a great game but school gets you where you need to be.

4. What does it mean to you to be inducted into the Lacrosse Hall of Fame?

Humbled and honored to be associated among some of the highest names in lacrosse. It was a special feeling to be inducted with my brother Brain Spallina. I want to thank Coach Powers and Coach Danowski. Coach Speckmann for always supporting me and pushing me to compete with the best in the game.

WORDS FROM COACH
Jimmy Mule
  • MLL Coach of the Year
  • Former Head Coach of the LI Lizards
  • Team USA

"I could not be happier for Brian and Nicky. I have been lucky enough to coach both outstanding athletes. What makes these two players stand out from the rest is the way they compete. Their relentlessness is what defines them."

"My favorite part about Brian's game is the way he leads. His passion is what drives him to be a fierce leader, and an even better teammate."

"I was lucky enough to be a teammate, then a coach of Nicky. His size and athletic ability is a comfort for coaches and teammates. You know Nicky will match up well with the best players in the game; no matter his opponents speed or strength Nicky has him covered."
