Team 91 Represented At 2018 Under Armour All-America Game
Before they head off to Maryland and Duke, respectively, the Team 91 2018 duo of George Wichelns and Frank Marinello will play in one more game together on the biggest stage in high school lacrosse.
Wichelns, an attackman from Connetquot, and Marinello, a defenseman from Chaminade, were both named to the Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Game by Under Armour. The game takes place on Saturday, June 30 at 8 p.m. at Homewood Field on Johns Hopkins’ campus. They'll be joined by 91 teammate Owen Caputo (Middle Creek, N.C./Duke).
“This has been a goal of mine ever since I’ve known about the game, and it’s an honor to be chosen to play in the same game that some of the best college and all-time players have played in,” Wichelns said. “When I got the call, I was so excited, but I wasn’t allowed to tell anyone, so that was tough. I was hoping to get selected, but I was definitely not expecting it.”
“It just feels amazing to be able to end my high school career with such an honor,” Marinello added. “I’ve watched the game every year and it’s been a dream of mine to be given the opportunity to play in it myself. I’ve never expected anything, but I just feel that I worked hard to get to this point, and it feels great to be rewarded with the opportunity to play in this prestigious game.
Wichelns is ranked No. 40 in the Inside Lacrosse/Recruiting Rundown rankings, while Marinello is slotted one spot behind him at No. 41. For IL Director of Recruiting and High School Content Ty Xanders, putting the 91 teammates in the game was a no-brainer.
“A dynamic 6’0, 185-pound lefty, Wichelns has 55 points through 11 games this spring after posting 50 goals and 44 assists a year ago,” Xanders said. “He was among the most dominant attackmen at UA underclass weekend, finishing with 12 points, and he followed that up with another strong campaign on the football field. Among other qualities, George will bring toughness and IQ to John Tillman’s program in College Park.”
“Marinello has physically looked the part of an ACC recruit ever since his freshman year for 91,” Xanders added. “He’s a team-first defenseman who is outstanding as a leader with his communication qualities and off-ball work, but can also wreak havoc 1-on-1 with his size, positioning and repertoire of checks. Frank is yet another Chaminade Flyer bound for Duke.
Congratulations to George and Frank on their selections!
